PART LIST:

  • 2x Main body

  • 1x Alignment block

  • 1x Spring

  • 1x Spring cap

  • 1x Lever

  • 1x Rubber cover

  • 1x Plug piece

  • 1x Metal catch

TOOLS AND EXTRAS:

  • Superglue

  • Car filler/ Any other filler or smoothing product (I use Upol-Smooth car body filler)

  • Sanding equipment (Recommend using a Dremel and some sanding blocks)

  • Filler primer/ High build primer

  • Primer/ Paint/ Protective lacquer

  • Files and Rasps

STEP 1

Roughly sand all the 3D printed plastic parts except the alignment block and rubber plug cover piece. I start with a 60 grit drum on my Dremel then move up to 120 grit sanding sponges.

STEP 2

Once most of the lines are gone use sanding paper and blocks up to 240-400, not too important, just to clean up the rougher sanding.

STEP 3

Next you will want to test fit all of the pieces together.

Use files and rasps to clean up the parts and test them again until you are happy with their fitment.

STEP 4 - Optional

On any imperfections in the print and layer lines use a small amount of car body filler to fill the gaps and smooth it out.

Leave to dry for roughly 30 mins.

(Be careful to not fill in any holes that are apart of the design, this can be fixed later if you do.)

Note: Filler primer will cover most of the layer lines and tiny imperfections, only do this step if there are big gaps or imperfections.

STEP 4.5 - Optional

When the Filler has set, use sanding sponges, paper and files to bring it back to the desired level.

If any parts where accidentally filled in, sand back all the filler and re shape the holes. The filler should be easier to sand then the plastic parts and will return to the right level easily.

STEP 5

After disassembling the parts again, glue the alignment block into one of the main body halves.

STEP 6

Spray all the parts that have been sanded with a filler primer and leave to dry.

STEP 7

Sand back the filler primer until you are happy with the surface quality.

Repeat the last 2 steps if needed.

STEP 8

Prime all the parts ready for paint.

STEP 9

Paint the main body pieces the main colour of the detonator.

Paint the Lever, Plug and Spring cap black.

Apply a few coats until the finish is consistent and clean.

STEP 10

Spray a clear protective layer to keep the paint safe from damage.

STEP 11 - Optional

Hand paint the screws on the main body silver.

Apply another layer of clear protective lacquer over the screws.

STEP 12

Glue the spring into the spring cap and leave it to dry.

STEP 13

Assemble and glue the main body pieces together whilst trapping the spring and lever components in position.

STEP 14

Scratch the paint off of where the plug will connect onto the main body to ensure a solid connection when glued.

STEP 15

Slip the Rubber cover over the plug piece then glue the base of the plug onto the main body section within the allocated recessed area.

STEP 16

Lastly bend the metal locking catch apart slightly then locate the 2 ends into the hole and press it back together again.

STEP 17

Check that the small green and red square buttons fit inside the screen bezel loosely allowing them to move in and out freely.
